The Church of St Joseph in the Village of Manikata is an architectural icon and is the first major commission of Architect Richard England, given to him by his father upon his return from studies in the studio of Gio Ponti in Milan, the church breaks away from the Baroque influenced churches that precede it, and in turn explores a regional approach, drawing inspiration from the prehistoric temples and the traditional farming Girna.

Freedom Day and Victory Day are two national holidays which bring out a special
tradition. The Regatta, a rowing race involving traditional wooden Midaji. Rivals flare up on such a day, with teams from Birgu, Senglea, Bormla, Kalkara Valletta, Marsa and Birżebbugia competing for honours and pride.

The Yellow buses dotted our streets after we went from green to bright yellow,
which included a tasty orange stripe. Each bus driver designed his own cabin
often cramming with religious ornaments and using pin striping to paint his
family names across the buses sides. “Welcome aboard” was also beautifully
added to the entrance.

Colours depicted bus routes and the Kalafrana route came in this cool
blue, with a red stripe across it. These buses are now unused, with
some restorers bringing them back to their former glory.

The green buses go further back in time, as our old buses were indeed green
before they became lively yellow. Each one had a different shade of green, depending on exposure to the sweltering heat, and the older the bus, the more faded the green was. This colour was introduced way back in 1975.

Escaping to Gozo was made more relaxing about the old ferry. This is still

The horse drawn carriage is a tourist favourite as it ferries people up and down
